...then on the morning of the 9th we loaded it all into a BIG PINK VAN (thanks again to the Jeffrey's who put their flower delieveries on hold just for us!)
Hey can I ride up back with all the cool stuff?!
Paul conceals his jubilation at finally getting all the bamboo, straw and pot plants out of our garage!
Pratibha (another faithful committee member!) and her brother-in-law set up the Nativity on stage... using only the highest tech equipment!
... straightening the stable walls!
A lot of these photos are curtesy of Craig Peihopa of timeline photography ... and here's the man himself with his wife Marcelina and Son Denzel ... momentarily entrusting his enormous, cool camera to someone else!
" And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed...
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city." (or 'local gym' in this case!)
Paul looking very dashing ... he should wear a dress all the time!
(Lyndsey ... our third committee member and bubs who helped too!)
The Broederlows ... who remembered to bring their 'tax' of a can of food and a tasty stew for the 'Pita stall'! Thanks guys!
The taxing ... Gary makes a mean Roman Soldier!
The rules of entry were pretty strict ... Chris Howard gets into his role of 'census dude' and debates whether Bethlehem really needs another shepherd!
Isobel worries that her neon pink shoes aren't quite authentic while keeping an eye on what the guard is up to and where he's pointing that sword!
The census signing ...
BETHLEHEM!

The Bakery ...
The Inn ... my personal pride and joy and ever so slightly blurry!
The Fruit Market (thanks to the primary for manning it!)
The dairy ... dutifully guarded by 'the-masked-avenger-shepherd' (The Young Men's stall (12-18yo's) ... their flavoured milk was a super big hit!)
This ones for you Brad and Kim ... Yup Pedro made it even in ancient Bethlehem!(The Young Women's gifts stall ... the gold (spray painted rocks!), frankincense (pot puree) and Myrrh (Cut up toffee) sold out super quick ... infact we had an 'incident' where one little girl lost her gold and was so inconsolable we had to beg a bag off someone else before she could be persuaded to go on with her part in the nativity! ... and some people were initially doubtful that anyone would want spray painted rocks!)

Pratibha and Lyndsey have a quick committee meeting ...
...sadly Sharon was too 'busy' to attend!
Happy Families ...
The Howard's without whom we could never have set up in time! We owe you guys ... actually we've got some lentil stew left over if you'd like some?!
The stew servers were going all night!
Hey Mum I think there's something living in there...!
As the stew levels dwindle the chickens try to keep a low profile...
Where's Wally ... or in this case 'the smith's'?
brawls were common on the streets ... and not only amongst the primary kids!
There's gotta be more food left somewhere! ... Bell decides there's other places to be then hanging around near the dodgy looking snake thing!
In the tradition of the Canadian mob ..."How far is it to Bethlehem?
Not very far ...
Shall we find the stable room
Lit by a star?
Shall we find the little child?
Is he within? If we lift the wooden latch may we go in?
May we stroke the creatures there ox, ass and sheep?
May we peep like them and see Jesus asleep?
If we touch his tiny hand will he awake?
Will he know we've come so far just for his sake?
Great Kings have precious gifts, And we have naught,
Little smiles and little tears are all we brought.
Merry Christmas!Hope you all have a great time with family and friends and we'll blog some more in the New Year!
