The Blue Mountains

I still pop into Binnalong Park on a Friday to see the other mum's ... I took these photos one rainy day last month when sadly no one but me and Bell showed up. I spent the time snapping shots and avoiding the sympathetic questions of the other mum's using the park ("really none of your friends came? How terrible! How do you know these 'women' anyway?!" etc etc) one of them even went so far as to suggest I stop coming altogether and go to a park closer to my house! Binalong is only a two minute drive!! It's nice to know you live in a caring community though!

All this play sure is tiring!

Isobel trying to bite her nose...and failing!

November 15th saw us (Paul, Bell, Laura and me) heading to the Blue Mountains to enjoy some of the fresh air (this was the week before the bushfires!), mountain scenery and healthy exercise!

The three sisters ... a primary landmark of the area.

Mum and bubs pre-walk ... we were about to head off down the sister on the far left, across the valley floor and back up via a nifty little cliff train thing ... which from memory was a pleasant little stroll ... that didn't take too long!

Heading off on our 'little stroll'...

Isobel decides to ride instead ... this one's got handle bars AND a good view!

Going down the third sister ... only a thousands steps to go ... you can tell it's early on ... Paul's still smiling!

Laura and one or two tourists!

Taking a breather on a teeny tiny platform between two gigantic cliffs ... and still smiling...kindof!

And down and down and down ...

Yup all this being carried sure works up a thirst!

We may not have bears in Oz but we do have to keep an eye out for other things!

more and more and more steps ...

The bottom!! And the first thing we see is this sign ... horrified we checked our watches only to discover ...

that we had loads of time!
Wow it sure is a hot day and what with all this exercise ... Isobel sneaks another tiny sip...

Mum was right! This walk is a breeze, I get to ride... have loads to drink and time to examine interesting natural phenomenon like 'sticks' ... I don't know what the others are complaining about!

Some typical mountain scenery
Isobel helps by making herself as light and easy to carry as possible!
The encouraging little signs we kept passing every five minutes or so ... they had to be a practical joke!
... just as well there were plenty of ferns still about to admire!
Water!! (Isobel had finished all the drink!)
Admiring the Waterfall ...
with one or two Japanese tourists!! (they took the short cut: down the cliff train, 2 minute downhill stroll, quick photo then back up the train to the souvenir shop ... clever people really!)
Isobel discovers she's got ... feet!
Hey that looks like my kind of mobile...!
Hey does this mean I'm not going to get carried back up all those fun steps?!
At least one of us still had plenty of energy left! Isobel heads off to do some quick last minute exploring ... with mum tagging along curious to check out more of the 'blue haze' ... apparently it's much more impressive of an afternoon once it's had a chance to build up (the interesting things you learn on 'The Explorer Bus')
Yup it's hazy alright!
and blue,
and mountainous...
Looks like someone got the name right!

The upshot of all that 'healthy exercise' was that Isobel slept very well that night (after we persuaded her to go to bed ... kept running around after all that drink and rest she'd had all day!) She was the only one of us who did though! The strain in the sun gave Paul a nasty case of heat exahustion and being the duitiful wife I am I ofcourse kept checking on him every half hour to ensure it wasn't developing into something really serious - like heat stroke! (Paul wasn't particularly grateful though... says he'd have preferred to have been left alone to get some rest!) The adventure did however teach me something ... when travelling with a toddler never trust your memory but wherever possible do things 'the Japanese way'!
