I came to Sydney for the very first time for my Sister's wedding when I was 12 and there were a number of things which were an instant hit:
- I could wear short sleeves in JUNE!
- All the 'skyscrapers' in the city were well over 6 stories high!
- Trains were not just something they had back in the dawn of civilisation (ie. Anne of Green Gables era) but a modern convenience you could actually pay a small fee to ride on (and get very, very lost on!)
- and last but definitely not least Circular Quay was THE best place for a stroll out!
Some of these wonders have paled slightly in the last 16 years but the last of my points will always be the first for me! That in mind, one lazy afternoon in late summer found us all wondering aimlessly round 'the best place for a stroll out'. We soon noticed that there was a louder than usual buzz of American accents on the breeze and a greater than usual thrum of feet pounding the wharf side. Tracing the disturbance to it's source we were delighted to discover a very BIG boat!
No QE2 but still very, very BIG!
No QE2 but still very, very BIG!
Yes! Two of my 'Sydney wonders' in one dynamic photograph ... a tall building and a tall boat! Could it get any better than this?!
Yes it can! An even taller building and a tall boat!
The smaller, lesser know and much more fun exit!
Oh it was BIG!
BIG!!!
Some more American tourists who seemed to be tailing us!
"Wow that was a BIG boat Mum!"
"Not sure about all those visitors seeing me in my socks though! Do you really think stripes go?"
" No! You're right! As long as I'm wearing my cool wee-willie-winky hat no one's gonna be looking at my feet!"
