The Mackay Homestead

So the superior 'Mainlanders' like to have a little joke or two at the expense of poor Tasmanians (kind of like the English with the bad Irish jokes!)... and I have to say for the most part they're very, very wrong! Tasmanian's do not have Uncles who are also their Father-in-laws and most definitely do not have two heads ... unless ofcourse they happen to be from a little town called Huonville!

The Huon valley famous (there goes that word again!) for it's apples (made into cider at Cascade brewery in Hobart) and pine (nothing in the world smells as good or polishes up as beautifully as Huon pine!) is a picturesque, postcard of a valley ... cut off and preserved in it's 1920's sweetness from the rest of the world until about 1960 when they managed to put a road through (one or two historical facts may have been distorted here due to poetical license!).

It's still a pristine and beautiful community tho and I'm proud to say one of my very good friends married a lovely lady, brought a homestead and settled down in that region of the world which means I have a wonderful excuse to visit every now and then!

My friend Rory unfortunately does have a job so Shell, Bell, Jo and I got to enjoy a nice visit with his lovely wife Katie and their new baby in their beautiful home. Which beautiful home is built against the inside wall of one of the big, old hay sheds on the property! It's like 'Doctor-Who's' Tardis - you'd never believe something so quaint and lovely could be on the inside of those big, old barn doors!

The lounge!
Bell and Jo manage to rustle up some 'light reading' (and a tasty shoe or two!)!
Jo tries out his inter-baby skills
"Well 'Hello' there Mate! Nice lookin' rug you've got here!"
The new little man ... and we just love that hair!
From every angle!
Katie's sister in law ... she lives on the homestead as well, same propery just up the hill a little. Her and her husband already had two beautiful littleuns (one of them pictured here) and were expecting twins to double their family in the not too distant future!
And really could their be a prettier place on Earth to raise them?!
Biased ... I know!
But then, I've come to believe that the reason Huonville gets the rap even from Tasmanians is because it's quintessentially the essence of what Tasmania is in every way!
And the rest of us are kinda jealous that we don't live there too!
