In the Wild ...

Wednesday 25th October saw a few of us heading west into the wilds of the Blue Mountains to a little patch of Garden called Mt Tomah with only one thing in mind ... EXPLORING!!

Isobel the adventuress heads off to see what she can sneak up on down the garden path, until she is suddenly attacked by ...

FLYS!!
Benj takes advantage of the Isobel-decoy to find a good hiding spot where the little winged fiends will never find him!
The nice, old, wrinkly, park ranger kindly told Lyndsey that the swarms of little black flies just meant it was going to rain soon but I have my own ideas what might have been attracting them!! Lyndsey and Kate exhibit 'good-mothering-skills-when-on-the-go-in-the-wild'!
Having escaped the hairy, flying insects Isobel then discovered another very strange bug!
And (after a bit of exploration!) lots of absinth herb ... yes this is what it looks like before it's made into that nasty, unpalatable, poisonous liquor!
Only to be recaptured again by the Mum Monster! Who tries not to fall into the waterhole while looking serene and smiley for a photo!
"Hang on, being 'explorers' doesn't mean we have to catch our lunch does it?"
After a quick bite to eat (don't worry the fish were saved this time by the sudden appearance on the scene of chocolate cake!) it was time to get down to some serious exploring but with so many lovely things to admire how do you decide which way to go first?!
A bit of a meander later and we were all convinced the park was a top place! It had everything: striking (but admittedly spiky) Aussie blooms,
picturesque nooks,
beautiful, meandering paths (that were all lovely and downhill till we got to the bottom and had to work our way all the way back up again!)
lush blossoms,
very tame wild life,
And paths to suit everyone!

After all that wondering we felt happily tired and downright snoozy in most cases!

Actually Bell didn't need a sleep at all, she was just trying to remember how she managed to loose both her shoes ... and yes, it is a funny story!
Another pretty cranny.
Hang on what's going on over there ...
Yup, just as I thought it's only mum taking more pictures of trees and grass and stuff!
Rhododendron cv. sappho, or so the sign said! (Lyndsey's favourite blossom, do you think it might grow from a cutting?!)
Hang on... I'm pretty sure that might have been...
YES, it IS ... RAIN!!!!
Quick... everyone ... back to the car!
I have to say despite the rush to leave (thanks to the big black storm clouds which were looking dangerously leaky!) we enjoyed the gardens so much that a few of us decided to take our hubbies back for a bit of a barbie one day soon but we will defiantly be taking our brollies and fly spray next time if it looks like rain!
