Boxing Day Mayhem!

Hey! SO I know these photos are now well over a month old too but at least I'm catching up ...slowly!!

These are from Boxing Day which was a really beautiful, slightly breezy, very hot blue day ... sitting around the breakfast table we all decided to give the Boxing Day shopping crowds a miss and instead head for the quiet tranquillity of Watsons Bay for a peaceful stroll to work off the lingering remains of our Christmas feast ...

The 'peaceful tranquillity' ebbed out somewhere around Kings Cross junction and the traffic jam seemed to be getting worse as we headed out of the city away from the shopping hordes!! What was going on? Inching our way towards Watsons Bay we spotted a make shift car park (about 15 minutes from our destination) and eyeing the clutter of cars banked up at every available car parking spot thought this might be our best bet of making the Bay at all ... even if it did cost an amazing $10 for the treat of driving cross country and finding a grassy patch all of our own to rest our tires on!
Having parked we couldn't miss the crowds of spectators lined up along the top fence ... all peering at something very exciting ... being a bit nosy we thought we'd take a look at what was going on!
BOATS!!
AND helicopters!
Ah yes! The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race extravaganza ... and this was last years winner!
... yup being the brilliant stratagems we are we'd managed to head to the peak viewing point for the race (albeit accidently!) with most of the rest of Sydney (well the Sydneysiders who weren't shopping at any rate!) and despite the crowds we had to admit the view was pretty good!
A cheery bunch of Brits and one Aussie toddler chick!
After fighting our way through the crowds to buy a fish and chip lunch at Watsons Bay and a quick battle down to the water front we headed back up the hill to retrieve our car ... hoping that if we headed over the hill to Bondi the crowds might be thinner ... and they were!
Vickie and Martin were very excited to see the famous beach front ... and even more excited that we'd made it while the sun was still up despite the traffic!
A couple of stylishly windswept tourists exploring the Bondi headlands!
The beach view ... also windswept! Incidently great weather for a bit of sailing!
The famous Bondi swimming baths ... actually we have no idea if they are famous but it was the main picture on the Mogfords Sydney Guide ... so! They actually charge normal swimming pool prices to get in and as Paul said 'who'd pay them when you can just swim at the beach?!' - I can think of a few reasons: Less Sharks, Less Jellyfish, Less Rips, Less chance of dying ... but then what do I know! Most of the populace seem to agree with Paul - there were only two people in there!
