Kitchen Training

Summer time in Sydney means peach-eatin' season!
But Isobel is all about routines, you do it once with her for fun and she wants to repeat the exact same sequence the next day and the one after forever! So one day when I cracked out the fruit bowl and sat down cross legged on the only cool thing in the house (the kitchen tiles just by the open back door) and shared two peaches with her (taking it in turn to bite and drip juice all over our t-shirts!) I should have thought about the future because ofcourse she could never eat a peach all by herself (or just the one) ever again!

"Common Mum that was only my second one ... I know you've got a fruit bowl hidden around here somewhere!"

" Hey when am I gonna be big enough for peaches?!"

"Just kiddin' as if I'd be into that kind of wet, slimy stuff!"

"Anyway I've discovered I've got the perfect snack right here ..."

"Attached to the end of my hand ... a bit bony but very satisfying!"

I've often found that the kitchen is the best place to just hang out in the house, it's gotta be my favourite room... and it's not even because of the food... I just love those big wooden surfaces and all those cupboard doors! And one of the best things about being a mum is passing on your fun taste to your kids ...

"Come on Mum I've already done my two-hour-kitchen-hang-out, are we almost done for today?!"

"Just kidding, I'm loving it in here!"

But as fun as the kitchen is you can't really fit the paddling pool in there and some of those long, hot summer afternoons just seem a bit a too long and hot without a dip! So occasionally Kimbo and I would brave the heat out back to crack out the paddling pool (being far too hot to walk the two and a half blocks to the local swimming hole!)

"Hold it right there Mum, I just don't think there's room in here for the two of us!"

And then we're back doin' what we do best! Double fun if we borrow Milz's chair too!

Stay tuned for more Summer fun in the kitchen!
